The K45 is a frame and cart system consisting of an upper ice feed tray and one 109kg cart. The cart is filled by gravity by the machine, eliminating shovelling of ice from the bunker. When the cart is full, simply slide the tray closed and wheel the cart to where the ice is needed. If a spare cart is purchased, it can be filling while the first is being used.

The exterior of the upper tray and legs are of stainless steel and the upper tray has a non-corroding, seamless polyethylene liner inside. Insulation is non-CFC polyurethane foam, bonded to shell and liner for added strength. The feed hopper is constructed from polyethylene and has an extra large opening to facilitate ice flow. The base has built in drains for the carts and insulated drain troughs, shutter door and drain pan to minimise condensation.

The cart is of insulated one-piece moulded polyethylene, with a plastic lid and four heavy-duty casters (two swivel, one step-on lock)
